As a church in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, All Saints has always valued the power of music to enhance the religious experience. Generations of children have passed through the choir. All have benefited, and for some the experience is life-changing. New choristers are likely to bring their parents into church and this helps to spread the Christian message.
The present choir consists of some seventeen adults and fourteen children, singing at the Eucharist on Sundays and occasional services on other days, as well as weddings and funerals. The carol service is very popular, and recently attracted a congregation of about 450. As part of a combined parish, the choir regularly combines with the other churches in parish events. In recent years there have been several foreign tours and a series of shared concerts with the Barnes Concert Band.
Our present Director of Music is Richard Lyne, who joined us in 2013, and has succeeded in bringing stability and a renewed sense of purpose to the choir.
In 2012 the organ from St Andrew’s Croydon was rebuilt and installed in All Saints. This is a powerful three-manual instrument, which greatly enhances the quality of our music. Our organist James Cryer has organised a series of inaugural recitals which have proved very popular.
The choir has vacancies for all voices, children and adults, but particularly trebles, tenors and basses. Anyone interested should apply to Richard Lyne, richardlyne26@gmail.com
